Great Plains Journalism Competition Winners Announced

TULSA - Winners of the Great Plains Journalism Competition, which awards outstanding work in newspapers, magazines and Web sites, were announced Saturday.
The eight-state competition recognized more than 100 winners at a banquet at the Cherokee Casino Resort near Tulsa . Competing states include Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, Arkansas and Missouri.
- The Oklahoman won best newspaper in division A, for papers with circulations of 100,000 or more.
- The Argus Leader in Sioux Falls, S.D. , won best newspaper in division B.
- Tulsaworld.com was named best Web site.
- Missouri's Inside Columbia magazine took home the top prize for best general interest magazine, while Tulsa Community College's Spotlight on TCC was named best public relations magazine.
- Journalists taking home portfolio awards include: Michael Overall, Tulsa World, Best Writing Portfolio division A; Randy Ellis, The Oklahoman, Best Reporting Portfolio division A; Matthew Gruchow, Argus Leader, Best Reporting Portfolio division B; John Littell, Inside Columbia , Magazine Writing Portfolio; Bryan Terry, The Oklahoman, Photography Portfolio.
Judges announced winners in each category. Judges also could award finalists with certificates if they felt they were merited.
